On this week’s show Ant & Tom discuss their changing opinions on Andy Murray and Russell Brand, to illustrate this they narrate over in interview Brand gave on American talk show Morning Joe where he takes over from the woefully band interviewers. Ant tells us about his outing to see Bon Jovi in Hyde Park at the weekend, which leads Tom to rant about the shortened televised set on the BBC of the Rolling Stone’s Glastonbury show.
Ant brings up the cheapening of Apple products, like the new iPhone, now that Steve Jobs’ ideology seems to have been forgotten, even though a biopic is being released later this year. Tom does an elongated shout out to all the people who have joined the Facebook page and begs for people to download and share the podcast with their friends. Ant talks about more YouTube channels that he subscribes to including IJustine, whose song about Google Glass ends the podcast this week, and Yogscast – which leads on to his ABC, Minecraft; the open-ended game about digging for things to make other things to battle zombies and spiders and stuff!

On this week’s episode of Anywhere But Here Ant and Tom take heed of listener’s requests for shorter shows and still manage to fit in National Red-Head Day (with another handily placed ad for The Ginger Survival Guide by Tom Collins, published by Michael O’Mara Books Limited – www.mombooks.com), the shock results from Wimbledon this year, Non-News in the shape of ‘exciting’ photos from the set of the new Veronica Mars production, Superbetter, an app that helps with anxiety and self-confidence from the TED Talks: Life Hacks series, Megan Phelps leaving the Westboro Baptist Church, the Le Mans 24 Hour Race and a rather niche personal ad from Craigslist! How do they do it?!
This week’s episode is the longest in ABH history because Ant and Tom feel the need to apologise for the torturous opening. This is the first week in ages that technology has let them down but, after some opening jitters from Tom and Ant’s refusal to restart the show (for the best given that it’s hilarious!) the guys settle into the groove like the seasoned professionals they’ve become!
Ant brings in some Non-News about a man who went missing in London and was found 24 hours later…in London…where he was supposed to be anyway. Tom talks about a girl beheading her father, voodoo and witchcraft in Papua New Guinea. They discuss celebrity child names after Kanye West and Kim Kardashian reveal their child’s name as North. West. Also, more talk of UFO’s this time near their home town.
The majority of the show is spent discussing films. Ant has watched Machete this week and they both talk about their favourite films, actors and directors three weeks after being asked about it by a listener. But the biggest chunk of film discussion is about Man of Steel and what they both think about the biggest blockbuster of the year. Strap yourself in, we’re going on a journey!
No, your ears don’t deceive you, this week’s episode is 21, not 20 as Tom made a mistake!
Ant and Tom have a packed out show for you this week, we have contributions from listeners Ozzie and Holly for news stories about grass length and a strange classified where you can live rent free, in Brighton, if you dress up as a walrus! Tom tries to get a story out of Tulisa Contostavlos being the British Lindsay Lohan/Amanda Bynes, perhaps this’ll be a regular feature after all! The Queen’s birthday honours list has been published and the lads dissect the names on the list including Baldrick getting a higher honour than Blackadder.
The guys also discuss a documentary they saw about alien abductees earlier in the week and why it is that only the crackpots are chosen for these shows. A large part of the end of the show is dedicated to the E3 games show and the pros and cons of the Playstation 4 versus the X Box One. Then the ABCs take them on to argue the merits of 3D in film and whether it’s really worth it.
Ant and Tom get side-tracked this week by the Hon.Paul Hellyer, the ex Minister of National Defence for Canada, who addressed a room full of other officials and claimed that extraterrestrials have been living among us for years and are working for governments and sharing technology. Which sparks a bit of debate!
They also talk about both Nelson Mandela and Prince Phillip being admitted to hospital, Courtney Love forming a new band and failing to find a bassist on Craigslist – in the same interview she says Amanda Bynes needs help! Then there’s Tulisa Contostavlos’ arrest for drug dealing and actors who were considered for or turned down major roles in films, during which you can hear Ant and Tom doing impersonations of Al Pacino as Han Solo, if you can call them impersonations!
In the ‘J’ section of the ABCs they discuss Juggalos, stand up comedians and a tenuous link to an album. They also show the trailer for Machete Kills which you can see below. Tom end the show with a reveal for a new feature which doesn’t have a definite name as yet, but is out of Non-News, Not News or Have I Got No News For You. Perhaps you can vote for what to call it, message us!
