This week’s show focusses on phobias, we learn about some of our listener’s irrational fears including spiders, rats, cigarettes and even shortbread (Anywhere But Here invents the word for this phobia, just so the scientific community are aware; koulourákiphobia)! Ant quizzes Tom on strange celebrity phobias and Tom re-lives a harrowing event in his life involving his fear of small spaces and going pot-holing when he was in the Cubs.
Tom talks about one of his favourite metal bands, System of a Down in the ABCs this week, while Ant talks about Shaytards, a family who post their lives on YouTube.
They also discuss another podcast called The Nerd Church, who picked a bit of a comedic fight about the use of English against American. Tom’s girlfriend validates Nerd Churches stance with an explanation of how English isn’t a real language at all and how American is… when it’s written.
On this week’s podcast Ant and Tom discuss quite a bit of current affairs including the impending war in the Middle East and the stance the UK has adopted by not sending troops into Syria. The death of Seamus Heaney, the Irish poet who wrote many a poem still studied by English students. Rolf Harris has been changed in connection with the Operation Yewtree investigation and the boys discuss their feeling towards this revelation.
They then lighten the mood somewhat by reporting on the ‘meh-ness’ of the Nintendo 2DS, David Ackerman who launched his teddy bear, Babbage the Bear, into the outer atmosphere to beat Felix Baumgartner’s freefall record. Also, Tenterden (a town in Kent, where Ant and Tom live) has put up Christmas lights 121 days before Christmas!
Tom has a quiz for Ant this week on rude place names in the UK, which ones are true and which are false? Followed hard on the quizzes heels are the ABCs, which this week is ‘R’ and the boys deliver with two each! Tom talks about the video game Red Dead Redemption and the benefits of reading while Ant introduces a new game called ‘rain’ and a cartoon series called ‘RWBY’ by Rooster Teeth (which you’ll be able to see the full trailer for below as the sound was off the scale.).
Yet another fun-packed show for your listening pleasure.
On this week’s podcast Tom takes us on a story of wonderful scenery, King Arthur and Scientology. He and his better half, Jo, went on holiday to Cornwall where they stayed at Camelot Castle Hotel, a lovely place owned by John Mappin, Irina Mappin and Ted Stourton, that has a dark side. The tale takes us through legal proceedings, Hollywood films (Well… Dark Secret), and allegations of Scientology training and indoctrination as well as trying to sell paintings.
In other news, Ben Affleck has been cast as Batman in the forthcoming Man of Steel sequel and Ant and Tom try to dispel some of the negative thoughts that have been rampant on the internet by trying to put things in perspective; Affleck isn’t the problem, Man of Steel 2 is the problem!
Also, the show starts with a new bit from our friends at Nerd Church Podcast, go find them on Twitter, Facebook and subscribe to them on iTunes!
Apologies for the ending of the episode we were rushing through as Ant’s laptop was running out of space and then ran out of space! So we had to re-record the last few minutes, enjoy!
Ant and Tom are back from their holidays this week with another fast and loose show while they get back in the swing of things. Among the topics covered are fracking and other forms of renewable energy, the existence of Area 51 as well as the small story of Ant proposing to his girlfriend, Liz!
Ant gets to play with his new soundboard, so you’ll hear a few sound effects and idents from our friends at A History of Misunderstanding Podcast. Bizarre news covered today include glow in the dark rabbits, a snail growing in a little boy’s knee, Japanese UFO footage being deleted from the internet and the discovery of new animals; the Bazinga Reiki jellyfish and the Olinguito.
Ant has a quiz for Tom about internet slang during which Tom explains why he’s not a internet pervert. The ABC for this week is ‘P’, Tom talks about Predator and Pan’s Labyrinth and Ant talks about the wonder that is procrastination!
The boys are back after a week off and take it upon themselves to take trolls to task after having their own run-in with one. But this proves to be a blessing in disguise as they are forced to take a look at themselves and their podcast, causing them to focus on providing you, the listener with a better quality podcast. They also make new podcasting alliances with Nerd Church and A History of Misunderstanding, who you should go and find as they are great guys!
Either side of the troll debate they talk about royal babies (Prince George, mainly) and the news coverage that went on at the time. The BBC showing a video with a graffitied picture of Prince William with a penis on his head, a Korean woman who spectacularly fails her driving test, they debate the success of YouTube’s Comedy Week and try to anticipate how their Geek Week will be received. In the ABCs Ant introduces us to a new DC villain by the name of Onomatopoeia and Tom talks about a Cohen Brothers film called O Brother, Where Art Thou?
Hello to new and old listeners alike, hope you enjoy!
